Tensions, turmoil and a ceasefire: Tourism stocks just dodged a Pakistan bullet. Should you buy?

Image
[hfe_template id='11223'] [ad_1] The tourism and travel-related stocks in India recently faced a wave of uncertainty, driven by geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan. Investors reacted swiftly, as disruptions such as flight cancellations, airspace restrictions, and even the suspension of high-profile events like the IPL weighed heavily on sentiment. However, just when the market seemed poised for a prolonged slump, the news of a ceasefire between the two nations shifted the narrative. The question now is whether tourism stocks have truly dodged a bullet and if investors should consider accumulating them. The initial shock: Market's nervous reaction When tensions flared between India and Pakistan, tourism stocks took an immediate hit. Aviation, hotels, and travel services companies saw a marked dip as travel plans were disrupted and cautious tourists postponed their journeys. Arpit Jain, Joint MD of Arihant Capital Markets, noted that the rising geopolitica...

Asian Paints, IndiGo shares jump up to 4% as Brent crude oil price falls below $60

Image
[hfe_template id='11223'] [ad_1] Shares of InterGlobe Aviation, which operates IndiGo Airlines, rose up to 4% to a day’s high of Rs 5,566 on BSE on Monday, as Brent crude oil prices fell below the $60 per barrel mark following OPEC+’s announcement to increase output. Asian Paints shares also gained around 2%, as declining crude prices significantly reduce raw material costs for paint companies. A fall in crude oil prices is beneficial for both airlines and paint manufacturers. For paint makers, lower crude prices lead to reduced input costs and higher margins, thereby boosting profitability. Similarly, for airlines, cheaper fuel improves margins and lifts bottom-line performance. Among other paint stocks, Berger Paints and Akzo Nobel were also trading nearly 2% higher. MRF shares jumped over 2%, as the tyre manufacturer uses crude-derived carbon black as a major raw material. Image
[hfe_template id='11223'] [ad_1] An unabated outflow in the secondary market since October is likely to result in the worst ever annual equity selloff for FY25 in rupee terms by foreign portfolio investors (FPIs). They sold Rs30,015 crore worth of equities including primary and secondary markets in the first two weeks of March, taking the total outflow during the fiscal year so far to Rs 1.5 lakh crore. It has surpassed the earlier peak outflow of Rs1.4 lakh crore in FY22. In the dollar terms, FPIs sold $17,664 million worth of equity in FY25 so far, which is lower than $18,468 million sold in FY22. The difference in the rupee and dollar denominated numbers can be attributed to the 12% depreciation in the rupee between FY22 and FY25. ETMarkets.com ETMarkets.com Live Events FPIs were net sellers in the secondary market in March for the first fortnight, selling $3,628 million worth of equities. They remained net sellers on each of the nine trading sessions during the per...

Image
[hfe_template id='11223'] [ad_1] Independent market expert Hemang Jani remains bullish on InterGlobe Aviation-owned IndiGo over SpiceJet amid the limited options in the listed aviation space. In a recent ET Now interaction, Jani reaffirmed his preference for InterGlobe over competitors like SpiceJet, citing operational transparency and growth visibility as key factors. Jani pointed out that while SpiceJet has shown promise, its prolonged struggles in demonstrating operational performance and lack of transparency in sharing key data remain concerning. "It is taking far too long to show any kind of operational performance, and what is concerning is the lack of transparency in sharing the key operational data," he noted. While the last quarter benefited from events like the Kumbh Mela and general activity, he believes investor enthusiasm will remain muted. According to Jani, InterGlobe has been the best play in the aviation sector, with a strong growth trajectory....
