Image
[hfe_template id='11223'] [ad_1] Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) have continued their buying spree in Indian equities, with purchases amounting to Rs 23,778 crore through May 16, 2025. This comes after a notable shift in FII strategy in April, where they reversed their selling stance and recorded net purchases of Rs 4,243 crore. The data was highlighted by Dr. VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Investments Limited, who observed a marked change in FII behavior during the second quarter of 2025. Dr. VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Investments, pointed out that “FIIs who were sellers in the first three months of 2025, having sold equity for Rs 116,574 crores during this period, turned buyers in April with buy figure of Rs 4,243 crores.” The buying momentum, according to him, has accelerated further in May, driven by easing geopolitical tensions and stabilizing macroeconomic conditions. “This change in FII strategy from selling...

Image
[hfe_template id='11223'] [ad_1] Billionaire investor Warren Buffett said Saturday that he wants to step down as chief executive of Berkshire Hathaway at the end of the year. The revelation came as a surprise because the 94-year-old had previously said he did not plan to retire. Buffett, one of the world's richest people and most accomplished investors, took control of Berkshire Hathaway in 1965 when it was a textiles manufacturer. He turned the company into a conglomerate by finding other businesses and stocks to buy that were selling for less than they were worth. His success made him a Wall Street icon. It also earned him the nickname "Oracle of Omaha," a reference to the Nebraska city where Buffett was born and chose to live and work. Here are some of his best and worst investments over the years: Buffett's Best - National Indemnity and National Fire & Marine: Purchased in 1967, the company was one of Buffett's first insurance investments...

[hfe_template id='11223'] [ad_1] Japan's Nikkei share average slumped on Monday to the lowest level in 1-1/2 years, with the index of Japanese bank stocks diving more than 17% at one point, as concerns over a tariff-induced global recession continued to rip through markets. Stocks tumble, dollar firm as Trump tariff threats ruffle markets

Image
[hfe_template id='11223'] [ad_1] World stocks fell to their lowest levels in six weeks on Friday, and the dollar hovered near multi-week highs, as the prospect of higher U.S. tariffs sent jitters through markets and revived concerns about a global trade war. Technology shares took an additional hit following a sharp sell-off in AI darling Nvidia and other so-called "Magnificent Seven" Wall Street mega-cap stocks, as investors judged the chipmaker's earnings report harshly a day after its release. U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday that 25% duties on imports from Canada and Mexico will come into effect on March 4 - not April 2 as he had suggested a day earlier - and said goods from China will be subject to an additional 10% duty. This week he also floated 25% tariffs on shipments from the European Union. "A market that had reduced its sensitivity to recent tariff headlines has had to reconsider that reaction function," said Chris Weston,...

Japan's Nikkei slumps to weekly loss despite softer yen

Image
[hfe_template id='11223'] [ad_1] Japan's Nikkei share average fell on Friday and logged its worst week in more than a month despite the tailwind from a weaker yen, as the decline on Wall Street and caution after major central bank policy decisions weighed. The Nikkei closed 0.29% lower at 38,701.90, bringing it to a weekly decline of 1.66%, its steepest decline since early-November. The broader Topix lost 0.44%, and fell 1.19% for the week, the index's sharpest weekly drop since mid-October. Stocks drew little support from the Bank of Japan's (BOJ) decision to not hike interest rates on Thursday or from Governor Kazuo Ueda's news conference where he said considerable time was required to judge the outlook for domestic wages and overseas economies, chiefly the U.S. This came after the U.S. Federal Reserve signalled a more cautious pace of rate cuts in 2025, after trimming rates by a quarter point on Wednesday. That sent the U.S. S&P 500 diving almost...

Image
[hfe_template id='11223'] [ad_1] Foreign investors pulled out Rs 21,612 crore (USD 2.56 billion) from the Indian equity market in November, mainly due to the rising US bond yields, strengthening dollar and expectation of a slowdown in the domestic economy. While the sell-off continues, the quantum of net outflow significantly reduced compared to October, when FPIs recorded a massive withdrawal of Rs 94,017 crore (USD 11.2 billion).
