Polycab India shares rise 3% after selloff as investors reassess UltraTech threat

Image
[hfe_template id='11223'] [ad_1] Shares of Polycab India climbed as much as 3.3% on Friday to Rs 4,828 on the BSE, rebounding from an 18.8% plunge in the previous session as investors reassessed the competitive risks posed by UltraTech Cement’s surprise entry into the wires and cables industry. The recovery came after a brutal selloff on Thursday, when HSBC slashed target prices for leading wires and cables companies by up to 23%, citing UltraTech’s Rs 1,800 crore investment as an “industry-fragmenting” event that could weigh on long-term earnings growth for incumbents. The recovery in Polycab shares was part of a broader rebound in the sector. KEI Industries rose 4.2% higher on Friday to Rs 3,123.15 on the BSE, R R Kabel climbed 3.4%, while Havells reversed gains to trade flat on Friday. Despite the price cuts, HSBC maintained its ‘buy’ ratings on Polycab, Havells India, and R R Kabel, while keeping KEI Industries at ‘hold.’ The brokerage lowered its price targets on Po...

Polycab, KEI, Havells shares short-circuited. Is this Birla’s next paint-style disruption?

Image
[hfe_template id='11223'] [ad_1] Aditya Birla Group company UltraTech Cement’s surprise foray into the Rs 80,000 crore wires and cables (W&C) segment has sent shockwaves through the industry, mirroring the disruption its parent company, Grasim Industries, has already triggered in the paints sector with Birla Opus. Shares of wires and cables manufacturers Polycab, KEI Industries and Havells fell up to 20% on Thursday as investors fear that UltraTech’s Rs 1,800 crore capex can lead to de-rating and margin pressure for existing players. Polycab shares nosedived 16%, while KEI Industries plunged 20%, Havells India dropped 9%, and RR Kabel followed suit with a 13% slide. UltraTech’s move has raised pressing questions: Will the Aditya Birla Group replicate its aggressive playbook and force a sector-wide de-rating, much like it did with Asian Paints and Berger Paints? And how vulnerable are existing incumbents like Polycab, KEI Industries, and Havells? UltraTech’s Big Bet o...

Wipro, Coforge among 30 stocks with record dates for dividends, bonuses, splits next week. Do you own any?

Image
[hfe_template id='11223'] [ad_1] The shares of companies like Wipro, Coforge and Persistent Systems among others are expected to gain attention in the upcoming week as their record dates approach for corporate actions such as dividends, bonus share issuances, and stock splits. The record date is a crucial benchmark set by companies to identify the shareholders entitled to receive benefits such as dividends, stock splits, or bonus shares. Investors must ensure that their shares are reflected in their demat account on or before this date to qualify for the respective corporate actions. For this, shareholders are eligible if they purchase the stock at least one day before the ex-date, as the settlement occurs on a T+1 basis. On the other hand, investors who buy shares on the ex-date will not qualify for dividends, bonus shares, or splits. Notably, with the implementation of the T+1 settlement framework, the record date and ex-date often coincide, making it simpler for inves...

KEI Industries, Polycab shares surge up to 4% as UBS sees upside potential of up to 41%

Image
[hfe_template id='11223'] [ad_1] Shares of wire and cable makers KEI Industries rose 4% to its day’s high of Rs 4,550 while those of Polycab rose 3.7% to Rs 6,881 on BSE after the global brokerage firm UBS initiated coverage on the stocks with a buy rating and a target price of Rs 6,150 and Rs 8,550 respectively. Stating that both companies are best plays on electrification, UBS stated that the favourable supply-demand dynamics are likely to benefit the industry leaders. The current $8 billion segment is estimated to be worth $20 billion in FY30 while the market share of the top five companies is expected to rise. Shifting global supply chain and incumbents' sizeable capacity should lift export revenue and the global brokerage firm sees a 16% and 24% earnings CAGR over FY24-27 for Polycab and KEI respectively. UBS also believes that compounding earnings are likely to support expensive valuations and thinks that consensus has underappreciated potential ramp-up of expo...
