Reliance Industries shares at inflection point. 6 reasons why FY26 could be the year of big re-rating

Image
[hfe_template id='11223'] [ad_1] After 3 years of playing second fiddle, India’s most valuable stock is ready to steal the show again. Shares of Nifty heavyweight Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) have already climbed over 12% in calendar 2025, and analysts say the old warhorse is saddling up for a full-blown re-rating as FY26 shapes into a potential inflection point. RIL’s Q4 results, which crushed Street expectations, were just the opening act. Brokers are now pegging targets as high as Rs 1,720 as against Monday’s closing price of Rs 1,368, and the mood on the Street is shifting fast. RIL’s transformation from a predominantly energy-centric empire to a digital and consumer-focused behemoth is now undeniable. "RIL’s transition to a new energy company is starting to bear fruit and we think it is back on an earnings growth path after flattish earnings in FY25. We expect a re-rating to follow this growth," Morgan Stanley analyst Mayank Maheshwari said, setting the t...

Reliance Industries shares down 25% from peak, Rs 5.4 lakh crore gone! Time to pounce?

Image
[hfe_template id='11223'] [ad_1] Shares of billionaire Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries (RIL) have been under bear pressure, shedding 25% of its value since hitting a record high of Rs 1,608.95 on BSE on July 8. Investors have seen a staggering Rs 5.4 lakh crore vanish as foreign institutional investors (FII) sold the bluechip stock amid a retail slowdown and weak refining margins. The stock has underperformed Nifty by 10% since January 2024, fueling extreme pessimism. However, a glimmer of hope has emerged—RIL has rebounded 4% in the last two trading sessions, suggesting some bottom-fishing. But is this just a dead-cat bounce, or is the worst truly over? Pessimism at Extreme Levels Analysts at Jefferies believe the current valuation is overly bearish, noting that the market cap now implies an enterprise value of just $48 billion for RIL’s retail business, compared to $106 billion in its last funding round. “A combination of same-store sales growth and area addition...

Mukesh Ambani eyes fast fashion supremacy with Shein. Are Trent, Nykaa at risk?

Image
[hfe_template id='11223'] [ad_1] By offering dresses starting as low as Rs 199, billionaire Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Retail has now sparked a fast fashion war in India by relaunching Shein and taking an online-first approach to challenge both Tata Group's Trent-owned Zudio and Nykaa Fashion. While India's overall fashion market grew just 6% in FY24, the fast fashion segment recorded a growth of 30-40% year-on-year and can be worth $50 billion by FY31, according to estimates by RedSeer Strategy Consultants. "With trendy fashion choices, attractive price points and partnership with RIL (help leverage RIL’s distribution network), we find Shein well-positioned to gain traction in the market...We see upside risks to RIL's retail revenue and EBITDA estimates on the back of the Shein launch and likely traction, helping re-accelerate retail growth," BofA Securities research analyst Sachin Salgaonkar said. Shein has a good brand recall in India and before ...

RIL share valuation hits Covid-era lows: 6 signals indicate a turnaround

Image
[hfe_template id='11223'] [ad_1] Amid earnings downgrades and target price cuts, largely driven by weakness in the retail business and a sharp decline in refining margins, Reliance Industries (RIL) shares are down about 23% from their peak in July, bringing valuations to their cheapest level since the Covid shock of March 2020. Goldman Sachs analysts believe that the sell-off in RIL shares, which have underperformed by declining about 6% in the last year, is overdone as the share price is now near its bear case scenario which assumes lower for longer refining margins, weak telecom ARPU/subscriber growth and lower TAM/market share growth in retail. Not just Goldman, but other major global brokerages like Jefferies, Morgan Stanley, CLSA and Bernstein have released reports in the last few days giving buy ratings with target prices going up to Rs 1,690. Saying that the valuations are now undemanding, analysts say the risk-reward is now favourable giving a great entry point t...

Image
[hfe_template id='11223'] [ad_1] Indian benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty50 opened marginally higher on Thursday, led by index heavyweights HDFC Bank, RIL, and IT stocks, amid in-line US inflation data boosted expectations of a Federal Reserve rate cut in December. The BSE Sensex was trading 111 points, or 0.14%, higher at 77,801. The Nifty50 was up 32 points, or 0.13%, trading at 23,590 around 9:20 am. The US consumer inflation, released after market hours on Wednesday, rose to 2.6% in October from a year ago, up from 2.4% in September, the Labor Department said in a statement. This increase was aligned with analysts' forecasts. Markets are now pricing in an 83% chance of a 25bp rate cut from the Fed next month, up from about 59% a day ago. However, expectations of Fed cuts next year following Trump's election victory last week have since been pared back. From the Sensex pack, HCL Tech, NTPC, SBI, Reliance, Asian Paints, and HDFC Bank opened with gains, ...

During this crisis, sectors like travel and hospitality were hit hard, while technology and pharmaceuticals thrived. Investors who had diversified their portfolios, with a mix of stable fundamentally s...

[hfe_template id='11223'] [ad_1] Indian benchmark equity indices, Sensex and Nifty50, opened with fresh record highs on Monday, led by index heavyweight Reliance Industries and banking stocks. The BSE Sensex was trading 321 points, or 0.42%, higher at 77,014. The Nifty50 was up 110 points, or 0.47%, trading at 23,400 around 9:19 am. IDBI Bank witnessed a notable surge of 5.5% after receiving an income tax order that determined a refund of Rs 2,702 crore for the assessment year 2016-17. On the o...

clsa india portfolio: CLSA tweaks India portfolio, fears de-rating in expensive capex stocks

Image
[hfe_template id='11223'] [ad_1] With Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP failing to secure a simple majority on its own in the Lok Sabha election, global brokerage firm CLSA has tweaked its India portfolio to make it more defensive. It has replaced L&T with HCL Tech in India-focus portfolio. "Recognising these uncertainties, we take out L&T from our India focus portfolio and replace it with HCL Tech. L&T has been in our portfolio since its inception in January 2021 and outperformed by a huge 106.2ppt. ITC remains our preferred staples name," CLSA said. The brokerage is now clearly overweight banks, commodities, and IT along with insurance and staples. "Our exposure to Modi stocks is limited to ONGC and Reliance as these have rerated by less than 15% in the last six months. We fear de-rating in the expensive discretionary and capex space and prefer the valuation support in private banks," it said. On Modi stocks, it said the rally was led...
