FPIs net sell Indian equities worth Rs 34,574 crore in February. Can trends reverse in March?

[hfe_template id='11223'] [ad_1] Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) were net sellers of Indian equities in February and sold shares worth Rs 34,574 crore during the month. So far in 2025, they have offloaded shares worth Rs 1,12,601 crore. On Friday, the FIIs sold Indian equities worth Rs 11,639 crore, recording their worst single-day sell-off in February. In the 20 trading sessions, they were buyers on just two instances -- on February 18 when they had bought domestic shares worth Rs 4,786.6 crore and on February 4 when they purchased shares worth Rs 809.2 crore. In January, the FII were net sellers at Rs 78,027 crore. Equity evangelists are unable to wrap their heads around the fact that there is a segment of the market that prefers the safety of cash or its equivalent at this point over stocks that have extended their record-breaking run with the US Federal Reserve's interest rate cut - the first in four years - coming as a shot in the arm for bulls. Even the venerable Warren Buffett, who recently bolstered his cash chest to $280 billion, has not been spared the criticism. The preference to move to cash among investors is mostly linked to discomfort over elevated share valuations and excesses in various pockets of the market.
