Financial, IT stocks lift Sensex over 700 points higher, Nifty tops 23,950

[hfe_template id='11223'] [ad_1] Defying losses in Asian markets, Indian benchmark equity indices opened higher on Thursday, driven by gains in financial, auto, and IT stocks ahead of the quarterly earnings season starting next week. The BSE Sensex rose 699 points, or 0.86%, to 79,189, while the Nifty50 advanced 209.60 points, or 0.88%, to 23,952 as of 11:10 am. The market capitalisation of all listed companies on BSE rose by Rs 2.09 lakh crore to Rs 446.52 lakh crore. From the Sensex stocks, Bajaj Finance, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Bajaj Finserv, Zomato, M&M, and Tata Motors opened with gains, while Bharti Airtel, Adai Ports, NTPC, and HDFC Bank opened with cuts. Meanwhile, the Nifty Auto index rose by up to 0.3% in early trade, driven by strong gains in Maruti Suzuki and Mahindra & Mahindra, following a rise in their monthly sales figures. South Indian Bank reports 18% profit increase in Q2

[hfe_template id='11223'] [ad_1] South Indian Bank reported an 18% increase in profit for the second quarter of this fiscal, with earnings reaching Rs 325 crore. In comparison, the bank had posted a net profit of Rs 275 crore during the same period last year The bank's Net Interest Income (NII), measured by the difference between interest earned and interest expended, grew by 6.3% compared to the previous year, rising to Rs. 882.7 crore from Rs. 830.6 crore The bank's total retail deposits grew approximately 9%, at Rs 1.01 lakh crore, while CASA (current and savings account) deposits grew 7.81% on year, to Rs 33,530 crore. We are focussing on growing our retail and MSME segment, versus our corporate segment. We’ve also expanded in the recent past, but there is still some juice left, as some branches are not fully utilized.
