Dalal Street ends week on strong note as fear ebbs

Indian benchmark indices logged record gains on Friday, mirroring the previous day's rally on Asian markets after US President Donald Trump announced a 90-day pause on reciprocal tariffs on Wednesday night. Indian markets had been closed on Thursday. The NSE Nifty rose 429.4 points or 1.9%, its highest single-day gain this year, to close at 22,828.55. The BSE Sensex rose 1,310.11 points or 1.8%, its highest daily advance since February 4, to end at 75,157.26. Both indices ended the week marginally lower at 0.3%. The Nifty Metal index was the top gainer of the day, up 4.1%, followed by the Consumer Durables, Pharmaceuticals and Oil and Gas Indices, which gained 2.2-3.2%. Elsewhere in Asia, sentiment was mixed. Japan fell 3%, South Korea declined 0.5%, China advanced 0.5%, Hong Kong rose 1.1% and Taiwan ended 2.8% up.
