[hfe_template id='11223'] [ad_1] After infusing money during the last two months, foreign investors have turned net sellers as they pulled out over Rs 13,400 crore from Indian equities in August so far due to unwinding of the yen carry trade and recession fears in the US. So far this year, FPIs have made a net investment of Rs 22,134 crore in equities, data with the depositories showed. Going forward, if the market continues to rise, FPIs are likely to press more sales since Indian stock valuations continue to remain elevated, particularly in relation to valuations in other markets, V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Financial Services, said. According to the data, Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) withdrew a net amount of Rs 13,431 crore from equities so far this month (August 1-9). This came following an inflow of Rs 32,365 crore in July on expectation of sustained economic growth, continued reforms and better-than-expected earnings season, and Rs 2...

MFs’ share in total institutional equity hits a record

[hfe_template id='11223'] [ad_1] ET Intelligence Group: Dalal Street has now acquired a distinct desi flavour, illustrating the power - and allure - of equity for the ordinary Indian saver. It's no wonder, therefore, the share of domestic mutual funds in the overall institutional equity assets under management (AUM) reached a record high. Data from NSDL showed Indian domestic funds' share of total institutional equity rose 224 basis points to 20.89% as of June 2024. This increase is the highest among all institutional categories, marking the fifth consecutive month of expansion for local funds in total institutional equities. The growth in mutual funds' AUM is highlighted by the fact that the expansion in other institutional categories is only a fraction of mutual funds' gains. Institutional funds currently hold approximately 44% of India's total market capitalization, with promoters holding 51% and the remainder owned directly by retail investors. Th...

Image
[hfe_template id='11223'] [ad_1] India’s top money managers, overseeing nearly $120 billion of equity assets, are now favoring shares of large firms with strong fundamentals as this week’s election upset dims the appeal of past winners with sky-high valuations. Stock pickers at ICICI Prudential Asset Management Co. and HDFC Asset Management Co. are turning wary of small-caps and stocks that look overheated, such as industrials, defense and state-run companies. Nippon Life India Asset Management Ltd. is leaning toward larger companies that are trading at attractive valuations. It’s been a turbulent week for Indian equities. After an initial surge Monday on the back of exit polls signaling a sweeping majority for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, markets crashed a day later erasing almost $400 billion of value as his party lost its majority in parliament. While shares have recovered most of their losses after Modi won backing from key allies to form a government, stocks that a...
