Sensex jumps 200 points, Nifty above 24,800 after US court blocks Trump tariffs

Domestic benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty50 traded higher on Thursday, supported by gains in broader Asian markets and Wall Street futures, after a U.S. federal court blocked President Trump’s proposed “Liberation Day” tariffs. The BSE Sensex surged 476 points, or 0.59%, at 81,791, while the Nifty50 rose 118 points, or 0.49%, to trade at 24,871 early in the session. However, both indices later saw some correction and pared early gains. At around 9:40 am, the BSE Sensex was up 221 points, or 0.27%, at 81,534, while the Nifty50 traded 55 points, or 0.22%, higher at 24,808. The Court of International Trade ruled that President Trump exceeded his authority with the proposed tariff plan. Although the White House has appealed the decision, the ruling raised hopes that Trump may scale back from imposing the highest tariff levels he had threatened, lifting global risk sentiment.
