Synopsis

As a set of stocks, mid-caps have done poorly in the last year. Some of this was, of course, due to business conditions. Others did poorly because of valuation readjustments. Some stocks were seeing readjustment for quite some time, and the bears just made sure it continued for longer. So, is the valuation adjustment over? When investing in mid-caps, investors need to be clear about three things. One is valuation. Two is the real business of the company. And three is the management. You can err on valuations, but not the other two. They are the key to investing, especially in the mid-cap space.

First: Buying bad quality stocks when the sentiment is bullish (as it was till September 2024), and then suffering capital loss as the market corrects. Waaree Energies shares in focus after Q4 profit rises 34% to Rs 619 crore, revenue up 36%

In the same quarter last year, the company had reported a profit of Rs 461.5 crore. Revenue from operations jumped 36.4% to Rs 4,003.9 crore, up from Rs 2,935.8 crore in the year-ago period, according to the company’s regulatory filing. EBITDA more than doubled to Rs 922.6 crore in Q4 FY25, up 120.6% from Rs 418.3 crore in the same quarter last year. The EBITDA margin improved to 23% from 14.3% a year ago.
