Diwali Muhurat Trading: Know timings of pre-open, block deal and normal market session

The exchanges will conduct a special Muhurat trading session on Friday on the auspicious occasion of Diwali for an hour between 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. This special session marks the beginning of the Hindu calendar year Samvat 2081.

This hour-long session will be preceded by a pre-opening session from 5:45 pm to 6:00 pm and prior to that, there will also be a block deal session from 5:30 pm to 5:45 pm.


Further, the special session also includes a call illiquid auction session from 6:05 pm to 6:50 pm. The closing session takes place from 7:10 pm to 7:20 pm.

During the Muhurat session, the market operates like any regular trading day, where investors can buy and sell stocks, but the sentiment is largely positive.


Muhurat trading, a long-standing tradition in the Indian stock markets, holds special significance as it coincides with the festival of Diwali and the start of the Hindu New Year.

This symbolic trading window is believed to bring prosperity and financial growth, as it occurs during an auspicious time considered ideal for starting new ventures.The special trading session carries deep cultural and financial significance as it symbolizes the start of the financial new year for stockbrokers and investors. It is seen as a gesture of optimism and growth, with many believing that investments made during this hour will lead to prosperity.Analysts said for investors interested in shorter to medium-term gains, consumer goods and consumer durables tend to be strong performers immediately following the festive season.

"With increased consumer spending, many companies in these sectors often report their highest quarterly earnings during this period, which may lead to moderate gains in the months to come. Waaree Energies shares in focus after Q4 profit rises 34% to Rs 619 crore, revenue up 36%
