[hfe_template id='11223'] [ad_1] Synopsis In October, the bears made no distinction between large-, mid- or small-cap stocks – mauling them equally. The market behavior during the month underlined the importance of adhering to the basic principles of equity investing. First, remember that when you buy a stock, you own part of a business – and how the business is doing is more important than any movement of the Nifty. Second, if you are a long-term investor, a month of selling should not bother you. It has happened in the past, and will happen in the future as well. So, keep your focus on the business underlying the stock. Check for changes in the environment, and whether they are positive or negative for the business. Last, but not the least, do your homework before investing – not after investing. The mayhem in the market all through the month of October may appear to be unexpected. But hindsight tells us that there were – and still are – many signs indicating a phase o...

[hfe_template id='11223'] [ad_1] Synopsis After many months or one may even say that after a gap of a year, Indian markets got a reminder that global markets also matter. But there are some good learnings from this week's episode. After all the volatility we are still the best performing market, so bears will have to wait before they can make any serious attempt to control the street. But because valuations are high, it would be better to still be cautious both the amount of exposure one is taking and more importantly the stocks which one is buying should have good fundamentals and the score should have seen some improvement. These selected stocks depict a strong upward trajectory in their overall average score. This implies that there has been a significant improvement in their market outlook in the given time frame. In the last one week, after all the volatility, it was market breadth which stood out even more than the absolute movement of both nifty and sensex. Ex...

How long this phase will continue is an open ended question because when will the US Fed act is something which is still not clear at this point. If one looks at the Indian market, just before this global issue came up they have been doing well, both in terms of the performance at the level of Nifty and broader market breadth which has not been that bad as it used to be in March when it was Indian specific correction. The way things are panning out even in this correction, the probability that Indian markets will be able to outperform global peers seems to be high at this point of time. So, in a way these corrections are opportunities for a medium to long term perspective but only if you buy stocks where they meet certain parameters, especially in small cap segments where risk and reward are of different nature. In a week when Nifty and sensex have witnessed big cuts ...
